Counseling grounded in presence and science
I'm Kerry Wischusen, LPC. With a biochemistry background, a master's in clinical counseling, and formal training in yoga and mindfulness, I offer attuned, warm presence and practical skills you can use in your life.
Presence first, then insight
The silence skills I live and teach, paired with the frameworks of mind, brain and healing already published, make for a counseling approach that is deeply attuned and clinically grounded.
How I work
I lead with skillful listening — an attuned presence to everything you’re bringing, not just the surface of it. Rather than rushing toward a diagnosis, I listen for your mechanisms: the cause-and-effect chains that shape how you respond to the world, and the cycles of defense your brain has built to keep you safe.
Underneath those defenses are your values. My work isn’t to hand you a different version of yourself — it’s to honor what those defenses were protecting, and help you find steadier ground to stand on. With real warmth and a grounded understanding of how the brain actually works, we move deliberately: not a dramatic erase-and-replace, but a steady reclaiming, so you’re acting from your values instead of reacting from old defenses.
If you’ve sat with a counselor who answered with a lecture or vacant reassurance, you’ll notice the difference right away.
What working together looks like
Book a free 15-minute call. Tell me what’s going on, ask me anything, and get a brief sense of how my support would specifically help you.
Meet for a first session — in my Mount Pleasant office or online. The first session or two serve as intake, as I listen closely to where your patterns of defensiveness live and how your own values can guide you through them. From there, I’ll give you a written overview of the practices we’ll prioritize and how they map onto your goals.
Build the skills at your own pace, with me listening beside you.
I work with individuals, couples and teens, in person at 1671 Belle Isle Ave, Mount Pleasant, or online across South Carolina.
Everything I do is built on Skillful Silence
Accurate awareness, warm connectedness and easeful presence: three skills you can build in yourself. Read how the method works, or try it first with my guided practices.
